Hello, I'm J Ylipää.
"So yeah, I'm a mathemartist. Or musimatician..." -Johannes Ylipää Hey there! I'm a Finnish artist (1985) with a passion for digital art that combines different modalities and techniques. My creative output includes music composition, interactive installations, and computer-aided and computer-generated art. I've had the privilege of showcasing my art at renowned venues like the Helsinki Music Center and dozens of museums and exhibitions. On my free time, I love to play jazz piano. I hold a Master's degree in Music from Sibelius-Academy (2015), where I graduated with honors. My educational background has provided me with a solid foundation in mathematics, composition, music theory, and programming. My upbringing was full of philosophy, art, and culture. SOME MILESTONES • Solo Composition Concert: Held at Helsinki Music Center in 2014, aged 29. From mechanical piano to sound projection through 20-loudspeaker orchestra, audiovisual compositions, fully computer-generated piece... • Developer at OpenAI since 2021; contributing to the development of digital tools and computational methods (Codex, DALLE 2, DALLE 3) • Finalist in Salmela 2023 Young Artist Modern Exhibition, where I showcased 14 Fine Art works with various digital techniques. "AI Revolution" (2023): A collection of provocative artworks, for example: - "IAMAI" (1.0 x 2.66 m) - "Art Eater" (1.0 x 2.50 m) - "Minced Modernism" (1.0 x 2.0 m) - "Bea" (1.0 x 1.0 m) - "Dimension-Drop: S11→S3×CP2" (0.8 x 0.8 m) - "Just Push The Button": Artistic Science of AI in the ... (0.8 x 1.33 m) "Hybrid Art" (2022): (0.6 x 0.6 m each, 5 unique works) From picture of an oil painting, adding 3D artwork: fusing these two artists' separate works into a single artwork using innovations in vision computation (DCNN) "Venus Transformations" (2022): (1.0 x 1.0 m each, 16 unique works) High-quality, unique, algorithmically modified and manually finalised abstract 3D sculptures: 16 variations, 16 identities. One source: the classic sculpture Venus de Milo. MY ART - MY PURPOSE Through my art, I explore the intersection of technology, creativity, and human experience, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. My artistic focus is driven by a desire to invoke curiosity, show what is possible, and promote critical thinking. Each piece is a unique, one-of-a-kind work that harmoniously blends traditional aesthetics with computational methods. CRAFTSMANSHIP & QUALITY Carefully crafted to add a touch of sophistication while allowing seamless integration into any environment, each artwork is printed on museum-quality Hahnemühle Fine Art Canvas using the Canon 12 Color Fine Art Printer. Built around wooden frames, my artworks showcases exceptional quality and durability, ensuring they can be appreciated for centuries to come: a truly exceptional artistic experience that awakens the viewer's senses and challenges their understanding of technology's role in creative expression. FINALLY Since childhood, I've created art and used technology as the medium. The current digital landscape has enabled me to bring my artistic vision to life in ways that would have been unimaginable without it. Creative expression is a reflection of my mind, and today's technology is a necessity for realising its complexity, and its absurdly "mathematic-aesthetic" metaphysical abstractions, that I think I can call art.
