“IAMAI” - The Story "IAMAI" (2023), by a Finnish artist Johannes Ylipää (1985), is an autobiographical work that converges modern, traditional, and personal spaces. This highly personal piece of art transforms reflection on identity into abstract shapes and topological symmetries, infused with references to significant individuals in my life. The artwork pays tribute to Ilkka Lammi, a young artist who tragically passed away during the same Salmela Young Artist Exhibition in 2000, where, in 2023, I premiered this centrepiece as a finalist. Lammi was also the soulmate of my current girlfriend. She made me to send an application to Salmela, the most esteemed Modern Art exhibition in Finland. The surprising reconnection of these timelines makes me wonder about the cycles of life, the bonds that connect us - and the meaning of love, art, and the present. The name "IAMAI" can be interpreted in various ways. It also refers to AI's generative power which can create intricate, complex and very strong styles but which can also be rooted in mathematical formulas, morphological properties, topological 3D rendering techniques - the all translated through some philosophical allegories into the emotional undertone which makes the impact otherwise missing in generative works. As a unique aspect, "IAMAI" was created using an OpenAI Alpha Artists' group training model in 2023. Fewer than 500 people had access to it, and it was offering very distinct properties not found elsewhere. Finally I could make my mind’s visions into reality! And later into a corporeal form through Fine Art printing. This artwork reflects the nature of AI in art and its capacity to produce impressive, beautiful patterns and seemingly unrelated, complex connections. These serve as the basis for my artistic expression. Having mastered the OpenAI Alpha Artists' group model after three months of study and experimentation, I was able to create ”IAMAI”. “IAMAI” consists of a few generative outcomes refined through manual work on the drawing board, making fine corrections. A custom super-resolution algorithm ensured the highest quality and extreme resolution (10920 x 20900 px) for Fine Art print. "I am I” - "I, am I?" - "I am AI" - “The great IAMAI” In this sense, “IAMAI” embodies my identity, current technology, personal space, serendipity, close relationships, and the asymmetries of complexity in abstract shapes and fine details within the frames. After viewing it daily for over a year, I still discover new details. This challenging piece of art is well-grounded in my artistic journey as an artist breaking out of his own bubble. “IAMAI”, with its infinite iterations of self, manifests the symmetry between concepts of Divinity and modern notions of artificial intelligence, “AI”. Finally: “I am” an exploration of deeper philosophical and existential questions about the nature of time, existence, symmetry, dimensionality of consciousness, and human identity: “I”.
