( 400 grams paper and without wrinkles ) The Sounds of Nature series Since ancient times flowers are associated with that life and both beauty are short-lived. The flowers of fruit trees as preliminary stage for the growth of fruit and still lifes with flower as Vanitas themes shows the transformations of life. A number of flower types that regularly appear in my work are an important source of inspiration. In my childhood I made walks with my family into the nearby woods and later when I went to Amsterdam long walks along the sea shore and the dunes. I partly owed this interest in nature to my education and through the years my love for nature grew and I recorded it on paper. I make many snapshots and sketches using those to create a personal impression of the natural beauty and not a realistic image. For example, I like the photographic, interesting, abstract effects of the wind when it moves branches and stalks or water circulations movements. My Pastelpaintings are a mix of Eastern and Western techniques. I start with a charcoal ​/​ pastel background, followed with a layer of washed ink. In the washed ink layer, while still wet, I make scratches in some places, simply by using my nails. To some works, I add a thin layer of white acryl paint. As a last phase, I apply only pastels. This technique features great density of color because it uses pure pigments. In summary, the means I choose are minimal: ink, water, chalk. Except for the base layers, for which I use brushes, I draw as directly as possible with my hands. Especially when I apply the last pastel layers where I must use my fingers to achieve a delicate blend of colors. This technique, the prepared background with colorful pastels results in a picturesque effect.
