MAKING A DIFFERENCE

This painting is about making a difference; anyone can make a difference. It is based on my interpretation of the story, THE STARFISH THROWER by Loren Eiseley. The Starfish Thrower Story by Loren Eiseley. "One day a One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…” I made a difference for that one.” We can all make a difference in each other lives no matter how small and insignificant it may seem. However, we must choose what kind of a difference we are making. Is it a positive difference? Each one of us has the capability of doing something positive and helpful to another. Be it a smile, a kind gesture, a kind word or helpful advice, lending a helping hand, supporting someone, encouraging someone or just lending an ear. Let's choose to make a difference today, even if it is in the life of one person. We can start with those closest to us - our family and love ones!
