Life and Death

"Life and Death" 2018 Pencil on Paper He was with us when we saw the light of day and will be by our side when we arrive on the loneliest day of our lives. Our eternally accompanying shadow, death. Why am I in this world? Why do I have to go again? Does my earthly existence have a higher meaning? What is the secret of impermanence, old age and death? Is there an "after"? There is hardly a known poet in the world who has not brought thoughts about these eternal questions to poetry in the course of his creative period. At the end of his life man becomes particularly aware of his mortality, and many poets then experience a high phase of their creative power, stimulated by the tragedy of eternal passing away. This is how works of great depth and wisdom were created. I also wanted to capture the ongoing cycle of life and death on a simple piece of paper.
