Why am I in this world? Why do I have to go again? Does my earthly existence have a higher meaning? What is the secret of impermanence, old age and death? Is there an "after"? There is hardly a known poet in the world who has not brought thoughts about these eternal questions to poetry in the course of his creative period. At the end of his life man becomes particularly aware of his mortality, and many poets then experience a high phase of their creative power, stimulated by the tragedy of eternal passing away.
