Hello, I'm Andrew P.
Based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, I come relatively late to fine art photography, having spent most of my adult career within Information technology roles. In Andrew’s own words: “In the realm of black and white photography, I find my true artistic expression. It is a world of stark contrast, where light and shadow dance in a timeless embrace, revealing the essence of a moment frozen in time. My love for this medium runs deep, as I seek to capture the world's rich tapestry through my lens. My photographic journey is a diverse one, spanning a multitude of genres, from the expansive landscapes that whisper the secrets of nature's grandeur to the intimate details of the microcosm in macro photography. I traverse the bustling streets, documenting the human experience in all its raw authenticity, while also immersing myself in the tranquil stillness of inanimate subjects, bringing them to life through my images. High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography adds an extra dimension to my work, enabling me to convey the full spectrum of light and detail, evoking a sense of hyper-reality. My artistic process begins with an open mind. When I step into a new place or town, I become a receptive observer, soaking in the surroundings, the people, and the stories they tell. It is in the fluidity of my perception that I find my inspiration. With each click of the shutter, I am not merely taking a photograph; I am capturing the mood, the emotion, the very soul of the moment. Yet, the true magic happens in the “virtual” darkroom, the digital realm where I weave my photographic narrative. Here, I make critical decisions about cropping, switching to monochrome, or adopting alternative perspectives. The post-processing stage is where I sculpt the final image, chiselling away distractions to reveal the core message I seek to convey. I may choose to intensify the contrast, pushing the boundaries of black and white, enhancing the drama and mystery within my compositions. Through my photography, I invite viewers to join me on a journey of discovery. I hope to awaken their senses, encourage them to see the world anew, and perhaps, in the interplay of light and shadow, find a deeper connection with the beauty that surrounds us. In my work, I strive to transcend the ordinary and reveal the extraordinary, transforming the everyday into art.”
