Hello, I'm Laura D.
I am a self-taught Italian artist. I have always been surrounded by art, as raised by my parents who used to paint, draw and write. However, I wanted to follow my own path and decided to study Psychology at University. Only few years ago I felt the need to approach painting, starting by using the traditional medium, oil with tempera on canvas. After a while I didn’t want to limit myself to one medium and technique, so I started exploring and experimenting other ways, e.g., acrylic gesso, ink, charcoal, acrylic, watercolour and various materials, such as sand, wooden sticks, paper, plastics and so on. I often work combining all these medium into one work, in order to create highly textured three-dimension works. I use a variety of colour palettes from monochromatic to polychromatic on different surfaces such as canvas, wood, paper and leather, working with knives, brushes and my hands. My works are influenced by Abstraction, Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, focusing my attention on the potential powerful connection between Art and Psychology. My work is a constant search for a better way to interpret the ideas of myself, my dreams, my inner perception and contents, fantasies, in short, my inner child.
