KAREN GLYKYS ARTIST STATEMENT & CV “A Pop Artist for the New Era” - Made in Bed magazine 2022 I am a self taught, Mixed Media Artist and started producing art and exhibiting professionally in 2017. Surviving a hemorrhagic stroke in 2019, my art process became both therapeutic and healing. My palette more vivid and expressionist. My influences and reference points are vast and complex. I create Pop Art, Abstract acrylics and Smartphone Photographic PhoneArt - of which I am a pioneer. My PhoneArt process has a very strict criteria. I shoot, manipulate and edit all my images entirely on my mobile phone. I use Sony Xperia models, and free android apps only. I do not use preset effects, the image evolves and the process is very experimental. This work is logged under the #hashtag '#tinyeyeproject'. I produce abstractions of what I see, often influenced by the record sleeves, TV, video and movie special effects from the era I grew up in.
