Snowy Night Sublime

This painting has an interesting back story. I recently almost completely revamped it. It was an acrylic I had started a few years ago and already reworked a bit once. I liked the composition, so I kept that, but I decided that it needed something bold and exciting to jazz it up, as it was pretty bland looking. So I wet the surface and went to work with my inks, over several sessions. I used droppers, rags, q-tips, an old toothbrush, watercolour brushes, etc... and in combination with the textured surface that I had previously created it took on a sort of magical, dreamlike dimension. I highlighted the circular sweeps in the original sky with stars and patterns in the paint, to create a feeling of unity with nature, of space and depth, a feeling that speaks to the universal soul. The snowy areas also reflect the circular pattern, as it contributes to the overall harmony. This nocturne painting is not meant to be realistic, but to convey my awe before a beautiful snowy scene at night. It comes from my experiences of snowy nights in my native land, of Canada, and the more recent experiences here in Switzerland of mountains covered in snow.
