This one is very special to me. I wished to create a magical, starry night dreamscape or fantasy. It’s meant to express the wonder and awe I feel when contemplating the night sky on a starry night or a beautiful painting with this motif, such as some of van Gogh’s amazing nocturnes. I used ink and acrylics on wet (most of the time) canvas. There are so many layers and washes in what started out as a very intuitive piece. I got to use a lot of my favourite colours and colour harmonies and fling and sprinkle paint, among other things. You should have seen my hands and the work area… lots of clean up! Later I got extremely absorbed in creating balance. It took me quite a number of sessions over just over a week to paint this nocturne. It has won merit awards in a Helvetart and an Influence Gallery art competition, and has been longlisted with my submission to the VAA Artist of the Year Award.
