Having a childhood just a stone's throw from a fjord kingdom has become very significant and important to me. In the west of Norway, there is a continuous fjord system that was our communication routes. Most young people had their own boat, and we could visit each other via the boat route. We could also meet new friends in other municipalities this way. Fishing was of course a great hobby, and if you were lucky you could get great trout and salmon on the hook. We were busy setting out fishing nets and we caught herring and sprat in nets. The fjords were both our food and our playground.
