The Last Songbird

A large acrylic painting on canvas. I painted this after I found an abandoned nest in one of the trees on my property. The bird abandoned it when the smoke from the wildfires made all the birds seek clean air. I gently removed the egg from the nest. It was cold and as it warmed in my hand, it burst open. There was a tiny bird in the middle of the egg that had died. The painting reminds me to create space for birds in my yard.
